Traveling Exhibits

America 250 NC

Prepared for

NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources

Role

Designer, Project Manager

Duration

2 years (2023-2025)

Challenge

How can pop‑up exhibits on North Carolina’s founding role in America 250 make state archives accessible to schools, libraries and small organizations on any budget?

Approach

Designed three self‑guided exhibits (“People of Colonial North Carolina,” “Forging a Nation,” “When Are We US?”) as flexible pop‑up banners with rigorous fact‑checking, inclusive storytelling and print‑on‑demand options.

Created a digital version for the DNCR website.

Solution

The exhibits pair rare State Archives antiques with durable, portable banners that travel to diverse venues. They offer full digital access online and small‑format print options, so budget‑limited sites can still participate in the 250th anniversary commemoration.

Results

The project has broadened public access to North Carolina history through tailored messaging, portable designs and flexible formats. The awareness of the exhibits has grown greatly in part to earned media.

Demonstrates how thoughtful design can make archival materials engaging and inclusive for historians, educators and curious visitors statewide.
